Heidy Arevalo

The mission for Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland is providing a safe, decent and affordable housing for families in Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties. My experience through volunteering at Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland was an overall positive experience. Throughout the 3 days of volunteering, I worked with a variety of other volunteers and workers who made the experience very welcoming. I was able to use my organizational skills to make sure the environment was welcoming and organized for families. I also used teamwork and communication skills with other volunteers as well as workers to create a structured and organized work environment. Using these skills were all necessary in not only working with other members to keep a structured and welcoming ambiance but also to interact with families coming in. On the last day of volunteering, I met a lovely elderly couple who I assisted throughout their shopping. With my welcoming and positive attitude, the elderly couple thanked me for my service by not only thanking me many times and mentioning it to the assistant manager but they also provided a couple gifts to further thank me. Some tasks done included organizing the merchandise, providing pricing and taking inventory, assisting customers in answering questions and purchasing items and much more. I look forward to volunteering again at Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland in the near future.
