Emma Gay

I have enjoyed each and every one of my experiences with Blazer Kitchen. I enjoy being able to serve UAB and the Birmingham community while also working with other students and staff. During this shift, some of the volunteers were assigned to put together appreciation gifts for healthcare workers. I also helped to complete patient orders and ensure patient happiness. The most challenging thing during this shift was moving boxes, which was honestly the least of my worries. I loved being able to provide a safe space for our community and fight against food insecurity in Birmingham.

During these volunteer hours, I was able to organize food in the food pantry, pack orders for customers, and set out free items for shoppers. My favorite thing about my experience was getting to connect with other volunteers at Blazer Kitchen. We were able to talk about our volunteer experience, why we loved Blazer Kitchen, and our plans for our education. I also enjoy being able to fulfill shopper's request and make sure that they are getting exactly what they hope for.
