Welcome to Move Your Way ISU!

Move Your Way ISU connects Iowa State students, faculty, and staff with opportunities to promote physical activity on campus and in communities across Iowa. We are part of Move Your Way Iowa, a statewide initiative that encourages people to find ways to move that fit their lives.

Whether you want to make a personal commitment to being active, help others get involved, or gain experience organizing community activities, there is a place for you. Through this page, you can connect with the movement, access materials, attend training, and document your contributions.

Start Here — Join the Movement

Getting involved begins with a personal commitment:

  1. Join the Move Your Way ISU GivePulse page to connect with the campus movement.

  2. Complete a Move Your Way pledge. Choose a realistic way you want to be active and make a pledge using the materials under the Resources tab.

  3. Share your pledge with someone. Tell a friend, send a message, show your completed pledge, or share it on social media. Public posting is optional.

  4. Optional: Sign up for the “Joining the Movement” event under Events. We encourage anyone making a pledge to register so we can keep track of participation. After making your pledge, select Add Impact within that event to record your commitment. You can also upload a file or screenshot of your completed pledge.

Want the opportunity to be featured on our social media? After making your pledge, add an impact through the “Joining the Movement” event and upload your pledge file or screenshot. Include your social media username if you would like to be tagged, and indicate whether you give us permission to feature your pledge. Uploading a pledge does not require you to agree to a social media feature.

Event registration, impact submission, and uploading your pledge are optional. You can still make a pledge, share it, and stay connected without submitting anything.

You are welcome to participate at this level. When you are ready to do more, you can progress to Champion and then Ambassador, building on your experience along the way.

Become a Champion — Help the Movement Grow

Champions help other people connect with Move Your Way through a specific campus or county outreach action.

You can choose to:

  • Support your home county by reaching out to friends, family, or local organizations.

  • Support an adopted Iowa county by working with the leadership team and a local contact.

  • Build the campus movement by connecting with a class, student organization, residence community, department, or employee group.

As a Champion, you will use approved materials, such as an invitation email and flyer, to explain the movement and encourage others to make a pledge and connect with the appropriate GivePulse page.

Outreach could include sharing the invitation with a small network or speaking with a community organization about distributing materials. Check the Champion checklist in CyBox, linked under Resources, for the current requirements and materials.

Attend a Champion training session, complete your outreach action, and select Add Impact on this page to describe what you did, whom you reached, and what you learned. The leadership team will review your contribution for the appropriate ISU or Iowa Champion badge. Recognition is based on completing meaningful outreach.

Become an Ambassador — Help Put the Movement Into Action

Ambassadors build on their Champion experience by planning, coordinating, and facilitating an activity or organized promotion with others.

After earning Champion recognition and completing Ambassador orientation, you will work with a campus or county contact to choose a manageable project. Examples include:

  • Organizing a Move Your Way table or pledge activity with a campus group.

  • Coordinating a county promotion with a library, community organization, or local leader.

  • Preparing and supporting other Champions as they complete outreach.

  • Helping a county partner introduce an approved Walk With Ease opportunity and guide interested participants to its portal.

Ambassadors help prepare materials, coordinate helpers or partners, explain the next steps to participants, and follow up after the activity. You will document your planning, your role in delivering the activity, the results, and what should happen next.

Select Add Impact on this page to document your Ambassador contributions. The leadership team will review your completed work for the appropriate ISU or Iowa Ambassador badge. Attending training prepares you for this role; the badge recognizes your demonstrated contribution.

Find Opportunities in the Events Tab

Visit Events to find:

  • Joining the Movement: An optional opportunity to register your participation, record your pledge, and upload a pledge file or screenshot through Add Impact. Submit your pledge here if you would like it considered for a social media feature.

  • Champion and Ambassador training sessions: Learn about the campaign, explore the pathways, and practice using the materials and documenting your work.

  • Campaign activities and outreach opportunities: Find ways to contribute on campus and in Iowa communities.

You can attend training to learn more even if you are unsure which pathway you want to pursue.

Read each event description for registration instructions, location, preparation, and impact-submission guidance. Record training attendance through Add Impact within the training event you attended. Record your Champion outreach and Ambassador work separately from training attendance.

Find Materials in the Resources Tab

Visit Resources for the tools and instructions you need to get started and continue contributing. Look for:

  • The Move Your Way pledge and completion instructions.

  • A link to the optional “Joining the Movement” event for recording and uploading your pledge.

  • The CyBox toolkit, which includes Champion and Ambassador checklists, approved flyers, invitation emails, outreach messages, training materials, impact-submission instructions, Ambassador planning tools, and badge requirements.

Use the materials for your chosen campus or county pathway. Check that your flyer, email, and QR code direct people to the correct page before sharing them.

Connect With the Team Through the Wall Tab

Use the Wall to follow campaign updates, ask general questions, exchange ideas, and share highlights from your work. You might introduce yourself and the county or campus group you want to support, share an outreach idea, or describe something that worked well. A Wall post does not replace an impact submission when documenting work toward a badge.

Document Your Contributions

When you complete Champion outreach or Ambassador work, follow the impact instructions provided for that opportunity. Identify the level your activity supports, the campus or county involved, what you did, and what you learned. Report only the time you actually contributed when service hours are applicable. Making a personal pledge does not automatically count as volunteer service.

You can support both campus and county efforts, but record each action once. Separate qualifying contributions can be considered for recognition in both settings.

Ready to Get Started?

Join this page and open Resources to make your pledge. We encourage you to register for “Joining the Movement” under Events so we can recognize participation and stay connected. After making your pledge, you can add an impact and optionally upload your pledge for a chance to be featured on our social media.

Explore Events for training opportunities and follow the Wall for updates. Contact the leadership team through this page or at Moveyourwayisu@iastate.edu if you need help choosing your next step.
