YRCC Internships

Interning at the YRCC has been awesome. I am a Social Work major at the University of Arkansas, and the YRCC Director, or any of the staff whom you might directly work under, do a really good job of tailoring the assignments and projects they have you working on to fit into whatever your area of study is. I have been able to apply the materials I have been learning in class and see how they play out in a real work setting.

Although the projects you may be working on are fun, interacting with the children is the icing on the cake. They are all good children and each are unique individuals with their own personalities and quirks. They sometimes can be little fireballs of energy and can be somewhat hard to handle at times, but that is to be expected of children. The center has different "clubs" that the children participate in after school depending on the day, so every day something different is going on at the center. Depending on the days you are at the YRCC you may even be able to go on field trips with the children. I've been on field trips to Chuck E. Cheese, the movies, and corn mazes with the children.

As interns, you are given a lot of work to do over the span of your internship. Being able to balance your comments at the YRCC, school, and possibly a place of employment is essential. Working on your time management skills is important for an internship at the YRCC.

Overall, my experience at the Yvonne Richardson Community Center has been really positive and great. I hope to volunteer here so I can continue to be a part of the center in some way once my internship is completed.
If you are unsure interning here is right for you, come on down and check the center out for yourself, or even consider volunteering at the center before you make up your mind. You won't be sorry!
