Volunteer Dental Hygienist Job Description 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure patients feel as comfortable as possible before their examination.
• Sterilize dental instruments properly
• Conduct initial mouth screenings and check oral health history
• Identify conditions like gingivitis, caries, or periodontitis
• Clean and help protect patients’ teeth (e.g. remove plague or apply fluoride)
• Educate patients on proper teeth care (by demonstrating, for example, good brushing techniques)
• Take X-rays
• Maintain documentation and charts on each patient
• Maintain clean and safe working environment, complying with procedures, rules and regulations

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a Dental Hygienist licensed in Washington State.
• Proven experience as a dental hygienist
• Ability to work with people from many different backgrounds, good interpersonal skills, ability to work on a computer.
• In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in this profession (e.g. HIPAA and infection control).

TRAINING PROVIDED:

• Lahai Health will provide training on our internal systems and processes, as well as Patterson Fuse software.
