About

Let’s uproot young Ligustrum lucidum (glossy privet) so it can’t get big enough to bear fruit. We will be working in an area where the mature trees have been dead for years.

As we work, you will be able to see how effectively this invasive tree chokes out all native vegetation. These saplings sprouted from the last seed crop of the long-dead mature glossy privets. By removing them, we will eradicate the infestation completely.

We will meet at the picnic shelter in Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park and walk a short distance to the target area. The brush is thick, so come prepared! See the Requirements for more info.

Requirement Details

Wear long pants—blue jeans if you have them—and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Crocs or flip-flops won’t be enough protection, but sneakers would be. Bring drinking water! If the fountains at the park are even on, they’re a long walk from our project site.

Other than that, just be there! Work gloves and tools will be provided.

Parking Details
The parking lot nearest the picnic shelter is the first one on the right if you enter the park from Lamar and the third entrance on the left if you enter the park from Parmer Lane via Willow Wild. You may also park at curbside along the park road, but not on the side marked as No Parking. Do not park on the landscape.
