About
🦋 We’re excited to be hosting an official Roots & Wings Festival Event! The Roots & Wings Festival is held from Saturday, October 22, through Saturday, November 5, and is a community-wide celebration honoring Arbor Day and Monarch Appreciation Day in Austin. Join us in celebrating the Roots & Wings Festival on October 29th at Zikler Botanical Garden. The Roots & Wings Festival is brought to you by the City of Austin and community partners. Learn more and find additional events at www.rootsandwingsfest.com.🦋
We need volunteers to educate the public about how to create homes for pollinator species like bats and solitary bees in your backyard garden! The educational content will be provided by the City of Austin staff, no need to be an expert on these subjects we will provide training via emailed content in advance of the event. Volunteers will assist with providing general information about pollinator species, the Zilker Botanical Garden, and the Roots & Wings Festival, training provided via email. Volunteers will also give out free activity kits, maps of the festival activities around the garden, pollinator plant seeds, and transplants of pollinator plants to the public at this table.
There are two shifts, 8-11 and 11-2 that you can sign up for, feel free to sign up for both!
Activities involved with this volunteer opportunity include:
- Provide basic information about the garden, Roots & Wings Festival, and pollinator species
- Ensure the public has access to our free giveaways, including seeds, transplants, and maps
- Support with event cleanup
- Support with event setup
- Provide the public with basic information about creating bat houses and solitary bee houses, including distributing handouts of designs to construct your own backyard pollinator habitats
Parking will be extremely limited at the garden. Please park in our volunteer parking as mindfully as possible to help us squeeze as many staff and volunteers back there as possible. Arrive between 8 and 8:15 am for the best luck with parking. You will be assisting with setup/breakdown of the education tables and materials.
The event is taking place at the Oak Grove area of the garden, which is located directly across the path from the volunteer parking lot. The education table will be identified to you once you arrive by Lindsay who is coordinating the event.
If you have any questions email lindsay.loftin@austintexas.gov
