About
Got a Question? Ask a Blazer! was started in the fall of 2012 by a group of students who saw a need for new students at UAB requiring assistance in navigating the campus on their first days of classes. Over the years the Divisions of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management have carried on this initiative in an effort to provide students with easy access to the support and guidance needed during the first two days of classes. Better known as Ask a Blazer!, this program gives returning students, faculty, an staff the opportunity to volunteer to support our new students during the first two days of classes.
This year, Ask a Blazer will take place on Monday, August 22nd and Tuesday, August 23rd from 7:30am-5:30pm in the following locations:
- Campus Green-North (closes at 3:30pm)
- Campus Green-South (closes at 3:30pm)
- Mini Park
- Zone B Parking Deck* (closes at 3:30pm)
- Hill Student Center-Performance Lounge
*The Zone B Parking Deck is located next to the University Blvd. Office Building (UBOB).
Volunteers will have access to campus maps and FAQ sheets to assist in providing guidance to new students. If you do not know an answer to the question you're being asked, use the walkie-talkie to radio a representative of planning team to assist!
- Arrival: Volunteers should plan to arrive a few minutes early to provide time for instructions and notes from the volunteer working the prior shift. Please do not leave your volunteer location until the person scheduled to work after you has arrived. Please call 205-934-8020 to report if a volunteer is late and has not shown up.
- Attire: Volunteers can wear whatever they like, but please refrain from wearing apparel representing colleges and universities outside of UAB. “Ask a Blazer!” buttons will be available at the volunteer locations and volunteers are encouraged to wear one for the duration of their shift.
