The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia receives donations from other food banks, local grocers and food retailers, food drives, and individual donors. By sorting donations with the Volunteer Department, volunteers help ensure that quality and safe product is organized for distribution.
Volunteers will assist in determining food safety and regulations are met by inspecting donations and sorting passable donations into categories. While sorting, volunteers will assist volunteer department staff in ensuring donations have first met food safety standards, have not expired, and are properly packaged or repaired. All instructions and guidelines will be provided for volunteers before beginning the event.
Once a category of donations reaches full capacity, the pallet of processed donations will be weighed, recorded, and moved to Agency Shopping storage for our clients. After donations are processed, volunteers will assist in sweeping and mopping the floor and sanitizing tables.
The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia Volunteer Department cannot guarantee the event listed for this date as volunteer events are based on need; if a different distribution program has an immediate or greater need, the event for the day may change without notice. We thank our volunteers for being flexible and understanding.
Closed-toe shoes are required to attend, and carpooling is strongly encouraged when possible due to limited parking. Upon arrival, please visit the main lobby through the glass door. Enter the door labeled "Volunteer Department” where you will be greeted by Volunteer Department staff.
As a reminder, we do not offer court-mandated community service hours for volunteer work.
First-time volunteers should always review our Volunteer Page to review any updates and Covid-19 regulations, as well as to read through our Volunteer Handbook, which covers instructions for events, dress code, programs, and submit our New Volunteer Survey. This event is not open to those ages 16 and younger.
