This was my second time returning to BEYA, and I had a phenomenal experience. I was able to network with some of the recruiters at the event and gain some interesting perspectives on the current job market and opportunities currently available for students.
One of the highlights of the event was my conversation with a recruiter who also serves as a judge for engineering ship competitions. I was able to see firsthand how my major translates into real-world applications. I was able to speak with them about the innovative designs and the passion behind the projects It was also nice to meet some of my peers and reconnect with familiar faces.

This was an amazing opportunity to shine a light on the various NASA mentoring internships available to us as students at PGCC. The presenter of the event did a great job breaking down the application process and sharing all of the diverse opportunities at NASA, which differ in age experience and showed us not to be discouraged by maybe not meeting the application on paper, but showcased how we can strength in other aspects of our application. I also enjoyed the video that showed the interns reflecting on their NASA experience.
The W.O.W. Spring Retreat was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with the W.O.W. community and share a meaningful space with other women. One moment that stood out to me was at the beginning of the meeting when someone pointed out how much we are influenced by appearances online and how easy it is to fall into the trap of comparison. She reminded us that, despite these challenges, our worth is not defined by comparison— powerful takeaway that truly resonated with me. It was also great to see Dr. Pair, Ms. Felton, and all the other W.O.W. members again.
As a returning Promise scholarship student, the refresher session was great to clarify some of the questions that I had for the upcoming semester. We went over the required hours per year, some of the up-and-coming volunteer hours, credits, and GPA needed to be maintained. It was also nice to see the scholarship team again and see the guidelines that needed to be met to maintain good standing.
The Morgan State University B2B Information Center was a great exposure to all the opportunities available as a PG student in the PG to Morgan pipeline. Dr. Clarke, Lilly, and Frania mentioned the plethora of opportunities, including the stipend offered from now until transferring to PG and the Student Research Club. It was also nice to hear about the transfer process from a student's perspective, as well as the various research opportunities and different mentorships.
This experience provided me with a focused and highly productive environment to work on my assignments. The dedicated time and distraction-free space enabled me to stay on track and achieve my goals. Along the way, I had the chance to meet new peers and reconnect with familiar faces, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I also benefited from the support of math tutors, whose guidance was both insightful and motivating. Overall, it was a rewarding experience that blended productivity, learning, and a sense of community with fellow Wow members.
Reflecting on my visit to the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) on Friday, November 22, 2024, I’m grateful to see the facilities and learn more about the internship opportunities available for students. It was exciting to see the kind of research being done and how it connects to real-world careers. The experience gave me a better idea of the paths I can pursue in the future.
Getting to tour the Laboratory for Autonomous Research, the Plasma Physics Lab, and a few Chemistry Labs was a unique experience. Seeing the research in action made everything feel more real and helped me better understand the type of work I could one day be a part of. One moment that really stuck with me was hearing from an electrical engineer with over 40 years of experience. His story about starting out with little knowledge and growing through experience was a great reminder that it’s okay to not know everything right away. It showed me that growth takes time and comes from learning through challenges.
Another big takeaway was meeting Mr. Morgan Haynes, a recruiter at NRL. Getting direct advice from him about internships and how to stand out as a candidate was extremely helpful. His tips on improving my resume and being prepared for opportunities made me think more about how I can set myself up for success.
Overall, the visit was both inspiring and motivating. It gave me a clearer sense of direction for my academic and career goals. I’m looking forward to applying what I learned and preparing myself for future opportunities at NRL and beyond.
