I deep cleaned the middle room of the preschool. There are a bunch of tables and toys there for the kids to use before they go to their classrooms. I organized the toys that were in random places. I got to listen to a lot of conversations happening in the front office today. One of the ladies that I work with talks to an employee in Spanish. I am not sure if he can only speak Spanish, but she only talks to him in Spanish.

I got to be in the classroom with the 12 to 18 month olds. I was heavily involved with the children today, which I have not done at the preschool yet. I am going to stay in that classroom the rest of my service learning. I will be working with two ladies in there. There is a little boy in the class with a disability, and it was interesting to see how they interacted with him compared to the other children. He was unsure about me at first, but he got more comfortable by the time I left. A little girl and boy really liked whenever I would fist bump them, and they kept making me do it. I overall really enjoyed today.
I worked on the bookshelf again today. A lot of the kids are starting to recognize me. One interesting thing I picked up on today was the difference in the interactions between the teachers and different age groups. The younger toddlers who have barely started walking get mainly positive reinforcement. Once they are starting to read and write I see more of negative and positive feedback.
I worked on organizing the book shelf again. The same little boy who talked to me on Tuesday came up and talked to me again. He came up to me and said you're here again? A couple of the teachers came up to me and told me they appreciated my help working on the book shelf. It was nice to see that the little boy recognized me already.
I cleaned off a bookshelf for the children, and organized the books by theme. As the kids were walking by me they asked me what I was doing. One little boy was waiting for his snack and asked me what my name was. He seemed very interested as to what I was doing. The school is very small, so he probably noticed I was a newer face.
I got a tour of Open Door Preschool, and I got to meet all of the staff working with the children. I toured all of the classrooms, and met the kids. I went to the oldest kids classroom, and stayed in there for a while. I played puppets with two little boys then I read them a couple of books. I really liked working one on one with the little boy. It was interesting to see his imagination while playing with the puppets, and what books he would choose for me to read.
